Story

On Thursday 6th July 2017 Wolverhampton Wanderers shocked the footballing world by announcing that their number 1 goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, had been diagnosed with acute leukaemia. Since the news broke of the 31-year-old Nigerian International and the battle he faces in the weeks and months ahead, there has been an overwhelming outpouring of support from the whole football community and especially the Wolves fans.

The club's chosen charity for all funds raised in support of Carl is blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia. This dedicated campaign page has been created in support of Carl and all donations and JustGiving pages created through this page will appear and contribute to the combined total.

Every penny raised in support of Carl in 2017 will go towards Cure Leukaemia's £1m appeal to fund the expansion of the internationally renowned Centre for Clinical haematology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. The transformational £3.2m project will double the Centre's capacity for patients, groundbreaking clinical trials and specialist research nurse positions. Not only will the expanded Centre immediately increase the number of lives saved but it will also hasten global progress towards eradicating all forms of blood cancer within 25 years.

In the event that Cure Leukaemia raise more funds than is needed for this project all additional funds will go towards furthering the objectives of the charity by providing specialist relief and treatment to persons suffering from leukaemia.
